“Change”

Now I wear headphones
For too long I could not bear
the unawareness ~

Marching in the halls –
I can hear it without out fear
of footsteps chasing ~

Reading a novel –
I can laugh and gasp aloud
without heart-racing ~

How I have so changed
Post- that unavoidable
state of vigilance ~

Nighttime comes early;
This, of me, at least, remains:
I thrive by Moonlight ~
